Sometimes, if the brand is yours and the manufacturer issues no identifier. Amazon decides case by case.

Often within a day, though some applications take longer or are denied without a detailed reason.

Question 5

Accepted Answer

No. It applies to Amazon listings only. Other retailers and marketplaces require a real GTIN.

Question 6

If I get an exemption now, can I switch to UPCs later?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many sellers start with an exemption and move to real barcodes when they expand beyond Amazon.

Question 7

What if my exemption is revoked?

Accepted Answer

Your listings can be suppressed until you supply a valid product identifier, which is the main argument for buying codes once rather than depending on an accommodation.
